'சுரணையற்ற இந்தியா'இந்தியாவின் இறையாண்மையை இதைவிட அவமான கரமான வார்த்தை களால் யாரும் திட்ட முடியாது. பிரமாண்டமான பத்திரிக்கை பலம், ஆதிக்க சாதி என்னும் தேசிய அடை யாளம், இந்தியா டுடேவால் தொடர்ந்து மூளைச் சலவை செய்யப்பட்ட வாசகர் வட்டம் என்ற ரசிகர் கூட்டத்தின் பேராதரவு எல்லாம் ஒருங்கிணைந்து, தரம் கெட்ட வார்த்தையில் சொந்த தேசத்தின் தன்மானத்தை சொறிந்து பார்க்கும் தைரியத்தை இந்தியா டுடேவுக்கு தந்திருக்கிறது.இந்தியாவில் என்றில்லை, உலகில் எங்கு குண்டு வெடித்தாலும் அதற்கு ஒரு முஸ்லிம் தான் காரணமாக இருப்பான் என்று தொடர்ந்து வலியுறுத்தி வருகிறது. அப்படி எழுதுவதற்கு இந்தியா டுடேவுக்கு முஸ்லிம்கள் மீது என்ன ஆத்திரம் வந்தது என்று பலர் நினைக்கக் கூடும்.
இஸ்லாம், முஸ்லிம், மதச்சார்பின்மை, இந்திய ஒருமைப்பாடு, தேசிய ஒற்றுமை, சமய, சமூக சகிப்புத் தன்மை என்ற தேசிய இறையாண்மையின் உட்கூறு களை உடைத்து நொறுக்கி, தாங்கள் கொண்டு வர விரும்பும் ஆர்.எஸ்.எஸ். சித்தாந்தத்தின் அரசியலை மக்கள் மனதில் திணிப்பதே அவர்கள் பத்திரிக்கை பணிகளின் நோக்கம். இந்த இலக்கோடு அ(வ்)வாள்கள் பல பத்திரிக்கைகளை நாடு முழுவதும் தொடங்கினார்கள்.இந்த நோக்கத்துடன் துவங்கப்பட்ட மற்றுமொரு நாசகார வடிவம்தான் 'இந்தியா டுடே'. கணிசமான அளவு சமஸ்கிருதம் உள்ளிட்ட வட மொழி சொற்களை சிறுக சிறுக திணித்து எழுதுவது இந்தியா டுடேயின் எழுதப்படாத தீர்மானமாக இருப்பதைக் காணலாம். முஸ்லிம் விரோத மன நிலை (ஙண்ய்க் நங்ற்) கொண்ட பார்ப்பனிய பித்து பிடித்த எழுத்தாளர் களை பொறுக்கிக் கொண்டு வந்து எழுத வைப்பது அதன் பணி.முஸ்லிம்கள் சும்மா இருந்தால் இந்தியா டுடேவுக்கு எரிச்சலாக இருக்கும். ஏதாவது சில முஸ்லிம்கள் எங்காவது ஒரு பிழையைச் செய்ய வேண்டும். உடனே முஸ்லிம்களால் இந்தியாவுக்கு ஆபத்து. முஸ்லிம்கள் எல்லாம் தீவிரவாதிகள், நாட்டுக்கு பாதுகாப்பில்லை, உயிர்களுக்கு உத்திரவாதமில்லை என்று கட்டுரைகளை எழுதி குவிக்கும்.பாதிக்கப்படும் நபர்களின் புகைப்படங் களை வண்ணங்களில் இட்டு இதற்கு முஸ்லிம்தான் காரணம் என்று உடனே எழுதுவது அதன் கலவர உத்தி. கோபம் உச்சந்தலைக்கு எகிறி பிற சமயத்தினர் பெரும் கோபத்துடன் முஸ்லிம்களை தாக்க வேண்டும். குஜராத்களை நாடு முழுவதும் ஏற்படுத்த வேண்டும் என்பதே அதன் எழுத்துத் திட்டம். அந்த இலக்கை எட்டும் வரை இந்தியா டுடே எழுதிக் கொண்டே இருக்கும்.ஒரு சம்பவம் நடந்ததுடன் அது குறித்து விசாரணை செய்ய காவல் துறையும், நீதி செலுத்த நீதிமன்றங்களும் உள்ளன. யாரும் கைது செய்யப்பட வில்லை. அத்தகைய நிலையிலேயே ஊடகங்கள் முஸ்லிம்களில் குற்றவாளி களைத் தேடுகின்றன. குண்டுகள் வெடிக்கும் சில நிமிடங்களில் எங்கிருந்தாவது ஒரு மின் அஞ்சல் இதற்கு பொறுப்பேற்கிறது. புதுப் பெயரில் ஒரு இயக்கமும் சொல்லப் படுகிறது. அதை வைத்துக் கொண்டு முஸ்லிம்கள் குண்டு வைத்தார்கள் என்கின்றனர். இந்திய முஜாஹிதீன் என்ற பெயரில் ஒரு இலிமெயில் அஹமதாபாத் குண்டு வெடிப்புக்குப் பொறுப்பேற்பதாக இந்தியா டுடே எழுதுகிறது. அந்த இலிமெயில் ஆய்வு செய்யப்பட்டதில் அதன் சங்கிலித் தொடர் ஒரு அமெரிக்கனின் கம்ப்யூட்ட ரில் சென்று முடிகிறது என கூறப்பட்டது. பின்னர் அது குறித்து எந்த தகவலும் இல்லை.இதிலிருந்து, இந்தியாவில் நடக்கும் குண்டு வெடிப்புகளுக்கு, முஸ்லிம்கள் தலையில் பொறுப்பை சுமத்தும் சதி இந்தியாவுக்கு வெளியில் இருந்தும் செய்யப்படுவதை அறிய முடிகிறது. ஆக, அரபு எழுத்துக்களோடு அனுப் பப்பட்ட அந்த இலிமெயில் ஒரு முஸ்லிம் இடத்தில் இருந்து வரவில்லை என்பதை உளவுத்துறையும் அரசும் உணர்ந்து கொண்டது. அதுவே ஒரு முஸ்லிமின் கம்ப்யூட்டரில் முடிந்திருந் தால் அவனை பிடித்துக் கொண்டு வர இன்டர் போல் உதவி தேடப்பட்டிருக் கும். ஆக, அகமதாபாத் குண்டு வெடிப்பை முஸ்லிம்களோடு தொடர்பு படுத்திய முதல் கூறான இலிமெயில் அக்குற்றச்சாட்டில் இருந்து முஸ்லிம் களை விடுவிக்கிறது. ஆனால், எந்த அடிப்படை ஆதாரமுமின்றி தியோபந்தி (தேவ்பந்த்) மதரஸாவின் மௌலவி அப்துல் ஹலீமை போலீஸ் கைது செய்துள்ளது. இந்த கைது ஏதோ ஒருவகையில் குண்டு வெடிப்பு சம்பவத்தோடு முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தை தொடர்புபடுத்த உதவுகிறது. அப்துல் ஹலீம் சில நாட்கள் அல்லது சில மாதங்கள் விசாரணைக்குப் பின்னர், சம்பவத்தில் தொடர்பற்றவர் என விடப்படலாம். அது இந்தியா டுடேயில் மற்றும் அதன் கொள்கை வழி இதழ்களில் வெளிவராது. ஆனால் நடந்த சம்பவத்திற்கு பொறுப்பை முஸ்லிம்கள் சுமக்க இந்த கைது குஜராத் அரசுக்கு தேவைப் படுகிறது. ஆனால் மிக சமீபகாலமாக, உத்திரப் பிரதேசத்தில் உள்ள தேவ்பந்த் மதரஸா, பயங்கரவாத எதிர்ப்பு மாநாடு ஒன்றை நடத்தியது. அதில் இஸ்லாம் பயங்கரவாதத்தை ஆதரிக்கவில்லை என்ற முழக்கம் பேசப்பட்டது. இந்தியாவில், அரசு, சட்டம், அரசு துறைகள் சார்ந்து மிக அதிகமான தாக்குதல்களுக்கு இலக்காகக் கூடியவர்கள் முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தினர். அடிப்பட்டவர்கள் ஒன்று கூடி, நாங்கள் திருப்பி அடிப்பவர்கள் அல்ல என்று அடித்தவனிடம் முறையிடுவதை போன்றதாகவே அந்த மாநாடு இருந்து, முஸ்லிம்கள் மீது நடத்தப்படும் அரசு பயங்கரவாதம் பற்றி அம்மாநாடு வாய் திறக்கவில்லை என்றபோதும் தேவ்பந்த் மதரஸா மௌலவி ஒருவர் கட்டம் கட்டப்பட்டி ருக்கிறார். இது இந்திய மதரஸாக்கள், அதன் பாடத் திட்டங்கள், ஆசிரியர்கள் மீது பயங்கரவாத முத்திரையை சுமத்தும் ஒரு ரகசிய நடவடிக்கை தான். இந்த கைதை இந்தியா டுடே நியாயப் படுத்தியுள்ளது. இந்திய பயங்கரவாதத் திற்கும் சர்வதேச பயங்கரவாதத்துக்கும் காரணம் என நிரூபிக்க இந்தியா டுடே அதிக சிரத்தை எடுத்துக் கொண்டுள்ளது.தேசத்தினுடைய வெட்கக் கேட்டின் ஒட்டு மொத்த உருவமாக மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சரை உருவகப் படுத்திவிட முடியாது என்று எஸ். பிரசன்னராஜன் என்ற கட்டுரையாளர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். பாஜக ஆட்சியில், கந்தகார் விமானத்தை பயணிகளுடன் மீட்க, அப்போதைய உள்துறை அமைச்சர் அத்வானி, திகார் சிறையில் அடைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த, பயங்கரவாதிகள் என்று சொல்லப்படும் மூன்று பேரை பத்திரமாக காபூலில் கொண்டு போய் விட்டு வந்த செயலைக் குறிப்பிட இதைவிடக் கொச்சையான வார்த்தைகள் தேவைப்படும். ஆனால் இந்தியா டுடே வாய் திறக்கவில்லை. சிவராஜ் பாட்டீலை, பழுதுகளின் அறிகுறி என்கிறது இந்தியா டுடே.இந்தியா டுடே தனது கருத்துகளில் என்ன சொல்ல வருகிறது என்பதை விளங்கிக் கொள்வதில் சிரமம் இருக்க வில்லை. குறிப்பிட்டபடி ஒரு முஸ்லிம் அமைப்பையோ தனி நபர்களையோ தாக்கவில்லை. ஆனால் இன்னும் ஏன் இந்தியா முழுமைக்கும் முஸ்லிம்கள் மீது தாக்குதல் நடத்தாமல் இருக்கிறீர்கள்? என்ற கேள்வியை தனது வரிகள் ஒவ்வொன்றிலும் பதிந்து வைக்கிறது. முஸ்லிம்கள் மீது வரைமுறையற்ற தாக்குதல் தொடுக்க சட்டத்திற்கு கூடுதல் அதிகாரம் தரும்படி இந்தியா டுடே வலியுறுத்துகிறது.2004ல், 'திட்டமிடப்பட்ட பயங்கரவாத எதிர்ப்புச் சட்டம்' குஜராத்தில் இயற்றப் பட்டும், 2006ல் இதே போன்ற சட்ட மசோதவிற்கும் ஒப்புதல் கேட்டு அனுப்பப்பட்டவைகள், நாடாளுமன்ற ஒப்புதல் கிடைக்காமல் அப்படியே கிடக்கின்றன. 2001ல் ஆந்திர சட்ட மன்றத்திலும் திட்டமிட்ட குற்றங்கள் தடுப்புச் சட்டம் 2006 முதல் மத்திய அரசின் அனுமதிக்காக காத்து கிடக்கிறது. இதேபோல உ.பியும், மத்திய பிரதேசமும் திட்டமிட்ட குற்றங்களுக்கான சட்டங்கள் இயற்றி மத்திய அரசின் அனுமதிக்காக காத்துக் கிடக்கின்றன. மத்திய அரசின் அனுமதியின்றி மாநில அரசுகள் கிரிமினல் சட்டங்களை அமுல் படுத்த முடியாது. ஆந்திரம், உ.பி நீங்கலாக குஜராத், ராஜஸ்தான், மத்தியப் பிரதேசம் மூன்றும் பாஜக ஆளும் மாநிலங்கள், மாஃபியாக்களை ஒடுக்க மாயாவதிக்கும், நக்ஸல்களை ஒடுக்க ஆந்திராவுக்கும் புதிய வலுவான கிரிமினல் சட்டங்கள் தேவைப்படுகிறது. ஆனால் பா.ஜ.க ஆளும் மாநிலங்களில் சட்டத்தின் பெயரால் முஸ்லிம்களை ஒடுக்க மத்திய அரசின் அனுமதி அவசியப்படுகிறது. சட்டங்களுக்கான அனுமதியை துரிதப் படுத்த, செயற்கையாக இந்த குண்டு வெடிப்புகள் நிகழ்த்தப்பட்டிருக்கலாம் என்ற சந்தேகமும் நிராகரிக்கப்படக் கூடியதாக இல்லை. காரணம் நரேந்திர மோடிக்கும் குஜராத் அரசுக்கும் அச்சுறுத்தல் இருப்பதாக காட்டிக் கொள்ள அதன் காவல்துறைக்கு செயற்கையான கபட தாக்குதல் (ஊய்ஸ்ரீர்ன்ய்ற்ங்ழ்?) தேவைப்பட்ட போது அதற்காக சொரப்தீன் என்ற முஸ்லிமை பயங்கர வாதத்தின் இஸ்லாமிய முகவரியாக காட்டவில்லையா? Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh attacks the BJP just like Sushma Swaraj attacked the Congress. ‘Investigate the timings of the blasts’, he tells NEHA DIXIT
You have made a statement that serial blasts take place in the country only when the BJP is in trouble.
What I have said is that the timing of the bomb blasts is quite uncanny. Why does it always happen when the BJP is in trouble? That needs investigation. I am not charging anyone.
What do you mean when you say the BJP is in trouble?
When the TEHELKA issue was to be discussed in Parliament, the House was adjourned for three days. Then when the expose was to be discussed, the Parliament attack took place. When the Godhra incident took place, Congress was doing exceedingly well in the local body elections and Narendra Modi had won by only 6,000 votes as a chief minister and that too with great difficulty. During the recent Karnataka election, there was a bomb blast in Hubli on the very first day of polling. Similarly, two days before the polling in the second phase in Karnataka elections, there was a bomb blast in Jaipur. It really needs an investigation.
Is your statement a response to Sushma Swaraj’s accusation against the Centre?
No, there is no question of that. I have been citing these instances about the blasts for a long time.
But Sushma Swaraj was criticised by the Congress ... Sushma Swaraj alleged that the Congress is involved directly. I have not said that. And does she have any facts?
I have facts of RSS, VHP making bombs.
Do you have evidences to prove that BJP, VHP and RSS is involved in making bombs.
Yes. In fact, in 1992 there was a bomb blast in the VHP office in Madhya Pradesh, where one VHP member died and two were injured while making bombs. Then in 2002, there was a bomb blast in a temple in Mhow. When the police arrested the VHP activists after investigation, they confessed that they were even given training to manufacture bombs. I have a videocassette of that confession. Again, in 2006, in Nanded, there was a bomb blast in the house of a RSS activist where two RSS activists died. After that in March 2008, there were bomb blasts at two places in Tamil Nadu. Then too VHP activists were arrested by the Tamil Nadu police who confessed that they were involved. And how did the Gujarat police suddenly find eighteen bombs planted on trees in Surat?
So are you saying that the BJP is behind the recent serial blasts?
No, I am not saying anything. All that I am saying is that the timing is uncanny. RSS, VHP activists have been caught making bombs, material for preparing bombs have been found at their office and there are three-four clear cases where they have been arrested and a case has been registered. Why isn’t anyone looking into this?.
Shouldn’t all parties unite against terrorism?
Absolutely, but when you target only Muslims, it’s not correct.
Then why is the blame-game still on?
It is on because we have evidence to say that people who talk about nationalism and nationalist feelings should not be involved in making bombs. The BJP believes in divisive politics. They cannot survive without dividing Hindus and Muslims. Each time something happens, they come back to Hindutva.

Independence Day for Kashmir - Swaminathan Aiyar

On August 15, India celebrated independence from the British Raj. But Kashmiris staged a bandh demanding independence from India. A day symbolising the end of colonialism in India became a day symbolising Indian colonialism in the Valley.

As a liberal, i dislike ruling people against their will. True, nation-building is a difficult and complex exercise, and initial resistance can give way to the integration of regional aspirations into a larger national identity — the end of Tamil secessionism was a classical example of this.

I was once hopeful of Kashmir's integration, but after six decades of effort, Kashmiri alienation looks greater than ever. India seeks to integrate with Kashmir, not rule it colonially. Yet, the parallels between British rule in India and Indian rule in Kashmir have become too close for my comfort.

Many Indians say that Kashmir legally became an integral part of India when the maharaja of the state signed the instrument of accession. Alas, such legalisms become irrelevant when ground realities change. Indian kings and princes, including the Mughals, acceded to the British Raj. The documents they signed became irrelevant when Indians launched an independence movement.

The British insisted for a long time that India was an integral part of their Empire, the jewel in its crown, and would never be given up. Imperialist Blimps remained in denial for decades. I fear we are in similar denial on Kashmir.

The politically correct story of the maharaja's accession ignores a devastating parallel event. Just as Kashmir had a Hindu maharaja ruling over a Muslim majority, Junagadh had a Muslim nawab ruling over a Hindu majority. The Hindu maharaja acceded to India, and the Muslim nawab to Pakistan.

But while India claimed that the Kashmiri accession to India was sacred, it did not accept Junagadh's accession to Pakistan. India sent troops into Junagadh, just as Pakistan sent troops into Kashmir. The difference was that Pakistan lacked the military means to intervene in Junagadh, while India was able to send troops into Srinagar. The Junagadh nawab fled to Pakistan, whereas the Kashmir maharaja sat tight. India's double standard on Junagadh and Kashmir was breathtaking.

Do you think the people of Junagadh would have integrated with Pakistan after six decades of genuine Pakistani effort? No? Then can you really be confident that Kashmiris will stop demanding azaadi and integrate with India?

The British came to India uninvited. By contrast, Sheikh Abdullah, the most popular politician in Kashmir, supported accession to India subject to ratification by a plebiscite. But his heart lay in independence for Kashmir, and he soon began manoeuvering towards that end. He was jailed by Nehru, who then declared Kashmir's accession was final and no longer required ratification by a plebiscite. The fact that Kashmir had a Muslim majority was held to be irrelevant, since India was a secular country empowering citizens through democracy.

Alas, democracy in Kashmir has been a farce for most of six decades. The rot began with Sheikh Abdullah in 1951: he rejected the nomination papers of almost all opponents, and so won 73 of the 75 seats unopposed! Nehru was complicit in this sabotage of democracy. Subsequent state elections were also rigged in favour of leaders nominated by New Delhi. Only in 1977 was the first fair election held, and was won by the Sheikh. But he died after a few years, and rigging returned in the 1988 election. That sparked the separatist uprising which continues to gather strength today.

Many Indians point to long episodes of peace in the Valley and say the separatists are just a noisy minority. But the Raj also had long quiet periods between Gandhian agitations, which involved just a few lakhs of India's 500 million people. One lakh people joined the Quit India movement of 1942, but 25 lakh others joined the British Indian army to fight for the Empire's glory.

Blimps cited this as evidence that most Indians simply wanted jobs and a decent life. The Raj built the biggest railway and canal networks in the world. It said most Indians were satisfied with economic development, and that independence was demanded by a noisy minority. This is uncomfortably similar to the official Indian response to the Kashmiri demand for azaadi.

Let me not exaggerate. Indian rule in Kashmir is not classical colonialism. India has pumped vast sums into Kashmir, not extracted revenue as the Raj did. Kashmir was among the poorest states during the Raj, but now has the lowest poverty rate in India. It enjoys wide civil rights that the Raj never gave. Some elections — 1977, 1983 and 2002 — were perfectly fair. India has sought integration with Kashmir, not colonial rule. But Kashmiris nevertheless demand azaadi. And ruling over those who resent it so strongly for so long is quasi-colonialism, regardless of our intentions.

We promised Kashmiris a plebiscite six decades ago. Let us hold one now, and give them three choices: independence, union with Pakistan, and union with India. Almost certainly the Valley will opt for independence. Jammu will opt to stay with India, and probably Ladakh too. Let Kashmiris decide the outcome, not the politicians and armies of India and Pakistan.

Seminars are great oppoortunities for Dawah. People who attend yourseminar have an interest in the information you are presenting and a needfor your product (The Holy Qur'an) or service (counselling,financial Aid etc ).It is not neccesary that you have to conduct a seperate seminar always. you can hire a stall in a seminar or an exhibition and take part in it. Like my friend and colleague Ashraf Mohammady who booked a stall in Surat's yearly exhibition and portrays posters of Islam and places three tables for peoeplt o come and sit and just talk about Islam over a cup of tea and biscuits.Can you guess how many people visit his stall? 7000 plus! How many people accept the invitation to Islam is not his responsibilty but he has done a good job in promoting Islam hasn't he? Year after year Ashraf bhai continues his job and propogates the message of Peace.

Seminars and exhibitions offers special advantage in Da'wah. They collect a huge crowd for you. The only precaution that you have to make is to put well trained da'ees to do the PR of Islam other wise it can boomerang.

Mass mailing: Also known as direct marketing. Successful used of this method requires mailing a well written letter of your Product ( DVD or an Islamic seminar) to a targeted mailing list.

Newspapers : Pay attention to the local news, business and announcements sections.Look for the people who get promoted, who are in news besides the film stars and sport stars. Choose intellectual class like a collector or an editor or a writer or a principal etc. Approach them and invite them to your seminars. There may be leads here for your product (seminar or DVD) Email publications : Getting email addresses of past and current visitors, your sphere ofinfluence and any one else you come in contact with is a great way to keepin touch.- Hairstylist: Most everyone has a barber or hairstylist they use on a regular basis.When ever I'm in the chair the conversation covers a variety of topics on Islam. You can put your local travels instead of Hair saloon or parent teacher meetings and go ahead with Islamic discussions- Daily Contacts: Every day when you leave the house take twenty visit cards( make you own visit cards announcing that you are a D'aee of Islam out to remove misconception about Islam and offering free DVDs or translation of Qur'an) with you and make it a point to give them away. That's twenty cards times fivework days. If you're really ambitious, do it on Saturday and Sundayalso.

These are all effective methods of sales lead generation and should be used regularly in Da'wah too. After all Is'nt Dawa'h a business with Allah?

Maulana Abdul Haleem - A scape goat - Investigation by TEHELKA

A three-month investigation by AJIT SAHI exposes the random targeting of Muslims by the police
AS HE’D done unfailingly every Friday for two decades, Maulana Abdul Haleem cleared his throat and began to speak to the faithful on July 25. It was near 2 pm, and the soft-spoken, revered aalim, or Islamic scholar, had just led scores of Muslims in the hour-long juma namaaz at his packed mosque in one of Ahmedabad’s Muslim localities where the preacher and many in his congregation live. His sermon this afternoon was on a Muslim’s duty towards his neighbours. “You cannot fill your stomach if your neighbour is hungry,” Haleem spoke in his unhurried tone. “You cannot discriminate between your Hindu and Muslim neighbours.”
Thirty hours later, within minutes of the serial blasts that killed 53 people in Ahmedabad on Saturday, policemen stormed Haleem’s house barely a km from the mosque and dragged him away as his stunned neighbours watched. On Monday, as a local magistrate gave the Crime Branch his custody for two weeks, police claimed Haleem is a crucial link in the Saturday blasts and that grilling him would unravel the execution of and the conspiracy behind the terror act.
In a time of tragedy and terror, everybody, justifiably, wants answers, culprits, punishment. The challenge then is not to reach for the quick routes, the easy demonisations. Unfortunately, the Indian State has not quite met that challenge. Over the years, for instance, SIMI has come to be a dread acronym for most Indians — Students’ Islamic Movement of India, a hotbed of terrorism, a lethal and shadowy organisation intent on destroying the nation. Quick on the back of every horrific blast, that name is thrust upon the public mind like a deadly innuendo — stretching outwards to embrace the entire community. But how true are these allegations?
In the struggle for a just and safe society, it is crucial to find real perpetrators and correct answers; crucial to cleave doggedly to the idea of fair play and rule of law; crucial not to fall prey to overblown and false psychoses. In pursuit of this, in an attempt to sift fact from prejudice, TEHELKA conducted an investigation across India over three months and 12 cities. Serialised here, starting this week, the disturbing investigation found that an overwhelming majority of terrorism cases — especially those related to the outlawed SIMI — are based on either non-existent or fraudulent evidence and are an affront to both law and common sense.
The investigation found that entrenched prejudices in the executive and the judiciary, an abject lack of political will against framing scapegoats, and a 24x7 news media that demands instant whodunit answers and unquestioningly copy-pastes every unproven police and intelligence story on terrorist networks has morphed into a tragic persecution of hundreds of people falsely accused of terrorism. Nearly all of these are Muslim; nearly all of these are poor.
“We will rise to the challenge and I am confident we will be able to defeat these forces,” Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said as he walked about in the debris at Ahmedabad’s civil hospital, where two blasts had inflicted the worst casualties. He urged political parties and police and intelligence agencies to work together against efforts aimed at “destroying our social fabric, undermining communal harmony.” Unfortunately, given their staggering record of false cases against innocent people, it appears that incompetent police and intelligence agencies are doing exactly the opposite.
